A double portrait in gouache on papyrus pencil of Nyankh-khnum and Khnum-hotep (5th Dynasty, c.2494–2345 BCE). They are believed to be one of the earliest known same-sex couples. Nose-to-nose denotes kissing in Ancient Egyptian art. They were inseparable in life, so their families buried them together when they eventually died.
